Introduction of ICEVI-NIEPVD Champions Program

The National Institute for the Empowerment of Persons with Visual Disability (NIEPVD) is an apex organization established by the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities, Govt. of India. It is based at 116, Rajpur Road, Dehradun and it has been promoting activities related to Education, Braille Production, maintaining the National Braille, Audio and Large Print Books Library, distributing educational aids and devices under ADIP scheme, promoting research and teacher education. ICEVI has taken a new initiative on encouraging persons with visual impairment to emerge as champions in the field of education of children with visual impairment. The ICEVI is organizing a nation-wise program on developing the champions. It invited 21 blind youth to come together and to attend the championship program. This joint programme of ICEVI West Asia & India along with NIEPVD which was organized at Dehradun aimed at promoting leadership among youth with visual impairment to enable them to emerge as successful citizens.  The two day programme enabled participants to understand their own abilities, gave them tools of technology and personality development, understanding basic legislative provisions and helped them to face the world with courage, skills and confidence.

NIEPVD and ICEVI  jointly organized this Champions Program for youth with visual impairment at Dehradun on 27th and 28th June, 2019. This program was hosted by NIEPVD, sponsored by ICEVI and was coordinated by Dr. Geetika Mathur on behalf of NIEPVD and by Dr. S R Mittal on behalf of ICEVI. All the selected participants were provided hostel accommodation in the premises of NIEPVD.  The office bearers of ICEVI – Mrs. Nandini Rawal, Treasurer, ICEVI World and Dr. Bhushan Punani, Regional Chair, ICEVI West Asia presented for both days along with Technology wizard Mr. Ranchhod Soni.

The Program was inaugurated by inaugurated by Dr. Nagaraja, Former Director of Indus University in the presence of Mr. Nachiketa Raut, Director of NIEPVd.
