Champions Program of 2022

ICEVI India and BPA India jointly organize the Champions’ Programme on regular basis to provide training and guidance to promising young visually challenged learners so that they may achieve their goals in their life successfully.  Two Champions’ Programmes were organized in June, 2022 for the benefit of visually challenged learners between the age of 18 and 25 of Gujarat, India.  The purpose of this training was to improve their academic performance, to enhance their employability and to bring about their all-round development.  These 2 programmes were conducted during 15 to 18 June 2022 and 27 to 30 June 2022 of which the second batch was exclusively for girls. Each batch consisted of 25 participants.

This training covered a variety of topics for all-round development of these Champions. It included discussion and guidance on leadership qualities, stress management, legal provisions for visually challenged persons, time management, grooming, need and techniques of language proficiency, role of Assistive Technology in the development of blind and low vision persons, modern methods and resources of education,, guidance on how to prepare for competitive exams, new career opportunities, etc. The topics included for the first time in this training were artificial intelligence, understanding graphics, tactile maps and graphs.

Practical experience was one of the chief attractions of the training. It included, first-hand experience of tools and gadgets of Assistive Technology, Games and puzzle solving for developing logical thinking, and concept formation concept clarification by touching various models, idols and other objects in the Vision in the Dark. Expertise Champions 2022 2 and wide experience of each speaker made the programme more effective and result oriented. In addition, visit to the shopping centre, mobility training during morning and evening hours, and visit to the popular restaurant added charm to this training. Feedbacks of the participants were quite satisfying and encouraging. Most of them requested to extend this programme for 6 days. There was a strong demand for arranging at least 2 days similar training for them as well for their further development.
