ICEVI West Asia

The Gujarat Disaster Management Institute is the one of the leading state level disaster management institutes in India. It is headed by Mr. P. K. Taneja, IAS as its Director General. As Mr Taneja was earlier Secretary, Department of Social Justice & Empowerment as well as Health Commissioner of Gujarat, he has been promoting role of such institutes in respect extent support to persons with disabilities during any disaster. Hence to identify areas of concern for people with disabilities during Covid-19 Pandemic, he motivated his team to convene a Webinar on the subject “Empowering Persons with Disability in the context of COVID-19”. A number of leading experts and persons with disabilities were invited to share their views in this Seminar. Bhushan Punani represented ICEVI West Asia and Blind People’s Association as one of the speakers. Mr Akhil Paul, Director, Sense International and great friend of ICEVI also shared his thoughts on concerns pertaining to persons with deafblindness and multiple disabilities in the Webinar. Bhushan Punani shared information as regards efforts of ICEVI and BPA in respect of providing relief and support to persons with disabilities during this pandemic,
