ICEVI Organizes Champions Program at NIEPVD, Dehradun

The National Institute for the Empowerment of Persons with Visual Disability (NIEPVD) is an apex organization established by the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities, Govt. of India. It is based at 116, Rajpur Road, Dehradun and it has been promoting activities related to Education, Braille Production, maintaining the National Braille, Audio and Large Print Books Library, distributing educational aids and devices under ADIP scheme, promoting research and teacher education. The International Council for the Education of Persons with Visual Impairment (ICEVI) is an international organization devoted to promotion of education and related activities for the persons with visual impairment and those with additional disabilities. As it is essential to promote leadership among youth with visual impairment to enable them to attain leadership qualities and to emerge as successful citizens, NIEPVD and ICEVI are jointly organizing a Champions Program for youth with visual impairment at Dehradun on 27th and 28th June, 2019. This program is being hosted by NIEPVD, sponsored by ICEVI and shall be coordinated by Dr. Geetika Mathur on behalf of NIEPVD and by Dr. S R Mittal on behalf of ICEVI. The 2 days residential program shall focus upon leadership qualities, technology, role models, importance of Braille, understanding basic legislative provisions and career guidance. All the selected participants shall be provided hostel accommodation in the premises of NIEPVD.

There is no registration fee or course fee and all expenses shall be taken care by the organizers. The participants are however desired to look after their own travel. However, for participants who are not able to take care of their travel expenses, concessional bus/train fare shall be reimbursed. We shall enrol only 25 participants as we use participatory method of conducting the training. All those youth with visual impairment with minimum higher secondary education and in the age group of 18-25 years may apply to Dr. S R Mittal at his email ID by 7th June 2019. A maximum of 25 participants will be registered for the programme. Selected participants will be intimated through email. They will be required to reach NIEPVD, 116, Rajpur Road, Dehradun in the evening of 26.6.2019 as the programme would commence sharp at 9:30 am on 27.6.2019.
